PhD Training Networks
Innovative/European Training Networks for an industrial PhD training
The overvall aim is to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early-stage researchers which are able to face current and future challenges and to convert knowledge and ideas into products and services for economic and social benefit. At Taros we have successfully applied for several European Training Networks/Innovative Training Networks Grants and thereby offered students from different European countries to carry out their PhD in a highly professional and industrial environment. These projects are supported by the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the European Commission.
Technotrain
Technotrain – Enabling TECHNOlogies-driven chemistry: a tailored TRAINing research program for batch and flow synthesis of chiral amino derivatives. The project started on November 2018 as financed MSCA project (Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions) in the frame of the ITN-European Industrial Doctorate (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2018 Grant Agreement n. 812944). The main aim is to create a training platform for young European researchers which could provide them a deep and wide overview of the scientific industrial domain. For that purpose Taros Chemicals and Prof. Benaglia Group from Universitá degli Studi di Milano have generated a one-to-one industrial-academic partnership, where those young European researchers can experience a working environment based on creativity, flexibility and accuracy, characteristic of academic research, but within an industrial focus. Technotrain has a major scientific goal, to apply modern technologies (3D printed microreactors, flow chemistry, green chemistry approaches, etc.) in the development of general, reproducible and profitable stereoselective, catalytic methods, suitable for industrial production of enantiomerically pure, functionalised amino derivatives featuring quaternary stereocenters. Taros Chemicals, as a leading European chemistry CRO, will apply its wide expertise in custom synthesis, design of experiments and process development to focus in the generation and applicability of flow chemistry conditions to enhance the profitability chosen enantioselective methodology. Defined targets, relevant for the pharmaceutical and new materials industry, will be selected to apply the above mentioned methodologies and generate stereoselective, catalytic synthetic examples, not only as proof of concept, but also as ground knowledge for the expansion to future technologies.

TASPPI
TASPPI (Targeted small-molecule Stabilisation of Protein-Protein Interactions) is a prime example of a consortium where both the academic partners (providing innovative idea, de-risking by profound basic research) and the industry part (providing highly sophisticated process of drug discovery) collaborate to educate and develop early stage researchers in applying a cutting edge technology solution at the interface of academic and industrial research that will ensure their future career opportunities. This European Training Network will train the young scientists in different scientific disciplines such as structural biology, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, biophysical, biochemical and cellular analyses as well as pharmacology. The long-term scientific goal is even to initiate a paradigm-shift in drug development, complementing the development of active site and Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) inhibitors with small molecules stabilizing those PPIs. This work is supported by the Initial Training Network, funded by the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the European Commission under Grant Agreement 675179.
